For many many years in a row I did the trek alone from Seattle to Black Rock Desert, Nevada for Burning Man for the week leading up to Labor Day. This year I did what I said I wanted to and do something completely different, including camp by a river. Well, it wasn't exactly a river but a creek and boy was it ever peaceful. It's a long haul to do in a day 455.00 miles from Surprise to Durango but so worth it. This time I stayed at http://www.lightnercreekcampground.com/ smallish campground with trees and the creek, since it was toward the end of the season it was relatively quiet there and for most of my stay I didn't have neighbors.
My Uncle Myron and Auntie Jeannie came down from Montrose, CO to visit during my stay. Always a pleasure to spend time with them! We had lunch at the famous and amazing Fransisco's in Durango then strolled the town before heading back to my campsite for some relaxation and good conversation.
I always enjoy my time in Durango and this trip was no different. After 5 nights there it was time to pack up the pooches and head onto the next town Williams, AZ "the gateway to the Grand Canyon" for an Airstream Rally with the 4 Corners unit of Wally Byam Caravan Club.
This was my first outing with this group. I found my people! We had a great time. Pretty much everyone had a least one dog with them. Seeing all the different Airstreams was a treat. Happy hour was a daily main event in the weekend. Everyone pitched in to make something good to eat & drink.
The RV Park http://www.thecanyonmotel.com/ was a great spot for our gathering. Close enough to town for me to ride my bike and partake in a little Saturday afternoon margarita fest where I was lucky enough to run into Jan & Sherri, two fellow Airstreamers. Made two new friends and got to enjoy some girl time giggles.
TrailaDoggies had their own adventures and mishaps. During our stay in Durango I once again tried to find the city off leash dog park, I tell ya it is a bitch to get to. So we finally find it, not much of a park but it is on the river...woohoo doggies love water. The "kids" do their splish splash and it was time to go, getting up over the boulders turned out to be as challanging as finding the da*& park. Shane & Rex didn't have too much trouble but when it came to my pretty little pony Hannah a whole nother story. Poor thing couldn't/wouldn't get back over the rocks, she fought it and was completely freaked out. I worked up a serious sweat trying to help her get over those rocks. Not a total loss of morning as all the adventure wore those doggies out for the day!
Rex aka Burger Boy had a bad dog moment! Sunday morning in Williams I had to make the trip into town for the fixin's for our Airstream Rally potluck that evening, was planning on making Uncle Myron's Baked Beans recipe. Since I was in town anyway I decided to stop and get a pie from the cafe/pie shop I had heard such great things about. I got the pie and put it on the dashboard while I ran into Safeway leaving strict instructions for my pack not to touch momma's pie. Think you know where this is going...oh think again. I get my groceries and we head back to the rv park, about a mile and a half. I park, start to unload dogs and groceries, I notice Rex's face is busy doing something....little bastard had himself a feast of two pounds of raw hamburger! I am so not happy at this point, not only did I loose all the burger for my beans I am thinking oh no he is going to be one sick puppy. Surprise of all surprises his feast did not effect him at all beside being totally snubbed for the rest of the day. Jan & Sherri were going into town and got me more burger for my beans so all ends well in this little adventure. Will I trust Rex again with groceries...oh hell no.
I know how lucky I am to have these adventures! Thanks to all who help make them happen.
Home now, pooches are still completely crashed and well I am on a project....painting my interior walls. Seems each fall I MUST cover what paint was left over from the previous owners, continue to make this house reflect my personality.
Cheers~ Jules
