Oh how I look forward to March and the Silver Sisters Rally! The one time of year its just us ladies camping, such a treat. Although we decided during this rally that we are going to bump it up to two times a year!
I started the journey on March 5, staying the first night in San Dimas, CA. Perfect place to stop driving and chill was East Shore RV park. You wouldn't think that off the I-10 near the CA-57 there would be a lovely rv park hidden in the hills. I hadn't been there before and didn't know what to expect, I was pleasantly surprised. The pooches and I rolled in early enough to take a couple walks, have some chow and in bed snoring by 8 p.m. Up and at 'em early enough the next morning to make our way threw the traffic hell that is Burbank, CA. My plan was to hit that early on a weekend morning to avoid any nasty. Once threw Burbank its smooth sailing from there to the coast. I always get a thrill at the first sight of the ocean around Ventura then it gets so amazingly beautiful around Santa Barbara. Last year I stayed at El Capitan where I fell in love with the sweats they sell there so I had to make a stop and pick up 3 more pair, yes they are that comfy!
From there we made it to our destination for the next four days Flying Flags Rv Resort in Buellton by 11 a.m. I had not stayed at this park before either, come to think of it this entire trip was staying at places I had not been, I like it. Checking into FF was an adventure in low class customer service but the park itself was pretty okay, the location for wine tasting just can't be beat, the price to stay in a nice spot at this park is going to run you some serious coin though. I tend to dish out more because I like spots that are a little more spacious and if at all possible away from other campers.
So begins the wine tasting! I tell ya I didn't go to many wineries maybe 6 in those 4 days but did I ever score the mother load. It doesn't always happen but sometimes I find a vineyard that blows me away and in that circumstance I have no problems walking out with a case or two especially if they have case specials. My mission was to come home stocked up and I managed to do just that. I love this part of California with the hills that were so green in March, the laid back attitude and the lovely wines. Someday I hope to spend an extended stay there, have a chance to hang with my girl Meredith a little more, who took me to this shop where I got the most fabulous cowboy boots I have ever owned, thanks M!
Wednesday morning March 10 time to head to the Lake (woohoo) to meet up with the Silver Sisters! This camping trip is such the ultimate treat for me. I do lots of camping with couples couples couples, that's all well and fun but being the only single person isn't always. This year we had lots of new ladies and their trailers. Just like me being the newbie last year the gals who are first timers don't know what to expect and are so surprised to find we're just a fun bunch. The spot that was picked for this gathering was a slice of heaven Lake San Antonio in Monterey County about 26 miles from Paso Robles. We dry camped by the lake shore which was absolutely gorgeous.
Sunday departing was a bit sad but by that point we were all ready for some showers and electricity. Before we left we made plans for future camping, one in Septemeber and again next March.
I didn't have much of a drive from the Lake I went to Paso Robles to stay at Wine Country RV Resort for a few nights. Decompression was much needed before the 10+ hour drive home to Surprise and yes I did buy more wine in Paso. A great trip!
