The Mongollon Rim or as Sergio calls it The Mongoloid Rim

A new adventure! Pups and I went to the Mongollon Rim in north eastern Arizona. I had only been on Hwy 260 one other time, that was caravaning with Louis & Sergio back from New Mexico, so I was excited to explore the camping there.

A friend "Square Stream Jim" is the new camp host at a 26 space campground at Woods Canyon Lake a US Forest Service area. The views from up there are spectacular! I headed up on Friday, Richard, Jan, Jim & Min were already there, ready and waiting. We did our usual thing of setting up, followed by happy hour. Pretty mellow evening we all retired to our trailers early that night.

Saturday Jan, Min & I went to explore the little store down by the lake. Min noticed someone practically riding her rear bumper on the way down. When we pulled into the parking lot, the car rolled up beside us...it was Min's daughter Chris and her friend Cindy, come to join us for some camping fun! The more the merrier.

I knew Janet & Leon were also coming up on Saturday to spend a couple nights. When the day started to turn into evening Richard was getting anxious, saying they aren't coming. Well, I know Janet & Leon well enough to know I wouldn't give up on them until it was pitch black. (No cell or Internet services available at this campground) Sure enough we are well into happy hour when beep beep Janet & Leon pull in....woohoo. Now that we were all accounted for the party could really begin! And party we did! 10 p.m. is quiet time in campgrounds, so decided to move from the fire at Jim's to Janet & Leon's because they have the biggest trailer. That's when it got exciting. Let's just say someone got locked out of their trailer and even tho we were tipsy we got that bad boy open within an hour. Airstream's are NOT easy to break into!

Sunday Richard & Jan had to leave us, head back home. Janet & Leon stayed another night before moving onto Moab and other places.

Terry & Greg arrived Monday for two nights, so good to see them again.

So a great 5 nights on the Rim!

But what there's more...on the way home which is only about 150 miles....I am less than 3 miles from home when BAM, my driver's side rear tire on my Tahoe blows. Damn it. I pull to the side of the 303 Hwy, not exactly a safe place to pull over, it is desert and not a lot of room to maneuver.

Within seconds a man, his wife and little girl pull over to help. Oh yeah and its 86 degrees out. This kind man was having trouble getting my spare tire out of its hiding position under my truck so I figure F it I have road side service threw my car insurance I am calling before I am stuck here for hours, mind you so close to home I am dying to just get there, so are my two hot pups in the car. As I am waiting for roadside service and my good Samaritan to return from the Chevy Dealer less and 1 mile away the Surprise Auxiliary Police stop to help as well. Just a few minutes after that the road side dude shows up, the good Samaritan returns and we are in business! I am back on the road after dishing out tips to those who helped and home a few minutes later, hot, tired and ready to unload the trailer so I can do some serious sofa surfing!
