Deliverance

Deliverance

Week 3 of being on the road brings me back to Phoenix and Desert Sands RV Park which I would come to call Deliverance and spend 10 nights at, the bummer of prepaying with a no refunds option. Upon arriving the place doesn't look so bad, easy check in and backing into my spot is a breeze but I am the self proclaimed back up queen so no surprise there. I start my usual routine of hooking the trailer up, this was a full hook up site with cable. I'm doing my thing when I notice the man who is a full time resident at the park standing in his doorway smoking a cig I say "hello", he looks at me and spits on the ground. My first impression, wow what a class act! This impression wouldn't be changed with time. A quick stroll around the park I discover most of the people in this park are full time with a few snowbirds and some over nighters thrown in the mix. The rest rooms for the park were closed with a sign posted on them stating "Due to resident abuse the rest room/showers are closed". This isn't a huge deal after all I have a perfectly good bathroom/shower in my traila. But add on top of that the lack of laundry facilities and the pool not being heated, this is not a place I would return to. The sad thing is this could really be a cool kitchy little place if it simply had some loving care and less full time residents. The neighborhood and location were pretty shitty to the only saving grace was that is a short distance for me to go visit Richard & Jan, who are fabulous friends and have excellent laundry services.

At this point I am reminded of a funny little discovery I've made in 2012 this could easily be called the year of camping next to a porn shop, yup I said it. It started at Picacho Peak, there isn't much on the exit to this state park but lo and behold a porn shop recently opened next to the entrance. Then as it happens Apache Palms has the distinction of being smack in the center between a liqueur store and an "adult book store" hello more porn. Deliverance had them both beat by being less than a block away from Castle Mega Store one of the largest outlets of kink in the Phoenix area. This phenomenon isn't limited to my Arizona camping. Riding my bike on Main Street in Ventura I stumble upon another shop less than a mile from my campground there. Hum, I wonder where my travels will take me next.

By the end of my ten nights I was SO ready to move on and head to Dead Horse Ranch State Park for the annual 4CU rally there.
